Edward Scissorhands
Originally created for a LEGO Ideas contest, Edward Scissorhands is one of the largest scale characters I have made to date. Standing without a base and being built without a single stud facing up, this model was also a challenge of balance and precision.
From the beginning, I knew I wanted to have as many angles as possible in the model. This was done through the use of hinges, ball, socket joints, and clips with bars. Nearly everywhere on the model required some problem solving to create.
Both the shirt and pants had to appear wrinkly, while avoiding looking unfinished or badly built. The scissors needed to be rigid, but look delicate and sharp. And most of all, the head and hair were the most challenging.
Taking over a week to design, the face consisted of angled cheeks, upside down building, and mind-boggling connections. Not to mention the crazy hair, with tufts shooting in every direction.
Overall, I am pleased with the final product, and hope to bring this model to shows in the future.
